{"id":6096,"date":"2015-06-14T09:29:26","date_gmt":"2015-06-14T16:29:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/?p=6096"},"modified":"2015-06-14T09:56:46","modified_gmt":"2015-06-14T16:56:46","slug":"dubuque-says-no-to-mvp-5-cardinal-hickory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/?p=6096","title":{"rendered":"Dubuque says NO to MVP 5 Cardinal-Hickory?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/MVP345.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6097\" src=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/MVP345.jpg\" alt=\"MVP345\" width=\"464\" height=\"166\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/MVP345.jpg 506w, https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/MVP345-300x107.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 464px) 100vw, 464px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>NO?\u00c2\u00a0 YES!\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s likely to happen, and the Cardinal-Hickory 1\/2 of MVP 5 will be coming before the Dubuque City Council soon.<\/p>\n<p>Remember ITC&#8217;s 1\/2 of MVP 3 (shown above the &#8220;3&#8221; on map) that it applied for, and which was permitted, last year?\u00c2\u00a0 Remember ATC and Xcel&#8217;s 1\/2 of MVP 5 (&#8220;shown above the &#8220;5&#8221; on map) that it applied for, and which was permitted this year?\u00c2\u00a0 Well now, another piece of that MVP plan, the other 1\/2 of MVP 5, the dashed line below &#8220;5&#8221; above, is gearing up, and is being met with some significant opposition.\u00c2\u00a0 And also well-funded promotion, with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cfra.org\"><strong>Center for Rural Affairs<\/strong><\/a> receiving at least $670,000 since 2010 to promote transmission, including these MVP projects (and they&#8217;re not the only one, check out RE-AMP funding!).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Dubuque-No-to-Powerline.pdf\">Dubuque: No to Powerline<\/a><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>According to this article:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thonline.com\/news\/tri-state\/article_98285615-18a8-5bab-8dda-db5e57e7b8b0.html\"><strong><em>Van Milligen concurs with a recommendation by Planning Services Manager Laura Carstens and City Engineer Gus Psihoyos that council members adopt a resolution stating that the filing of a petition by ITC and a formal hearing process would not be in the public interest.<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thonline.com\/news\/tri-state\/article_98285615-18a8-5bab-8dda-db5e57e7b8b0.html\"><strong><em>&#8220;I think the memo is pretty straightforward,&#8221; Psihoyos said. &#8220;We have issues that we saw on all three routes, and a transmission line can&#8217;t be within 250 feet of a residence.&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the Telegraph Herald&#8217;s view of the alternate routes proposed and what it would do to Dubuque:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/557d2d5e0dd92.image_.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6100\" src=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/557d2d5e0dd92.image_.jpg\" alt=\"557d2d5e0dd92.image\" width=\"400\" height=\"766\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/557d2d5e0dd92.image_.jpg 397w, https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/557d2d5e0dd92.image_-157x300.jpg 157w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A couple months ago, Alan and I went on a utility intrastructure tour which included the Cassville substation that they might try to use:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/CassvilleSub.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6104\" src=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/CassvilleSub-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"CassvilleSub\" width=\"420\" height=\"236\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/CassvilleSub.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/CassvilleSub-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dubuque has put a lot into its waterfront, and pass-through transmission is the last thing they need.\u00c2\u00a0 Interesting too is the city&#8217;s ordinance requiring a 250 foot distance from residences &#8212; something every township, city, county and state in the U.S. should adopt.<\/p>\n<p>And here&#8217;s an interesting factoid from that Dubuque Telegraph Herald article:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thonline.com\/news\/tri-state\/article_98285615-18a8-5bab-8dda-db5e57e7b8b0.html?mode=print\">Staff at the Center for Rural Affairs also is following the project. $670,000 over 4 years&#8230; a budget like that makes me <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><strong>green<\/strong><\/span> with envy.\u00c2\u00a0 How many transmission opponents have that sort of budget?\u00c2\u00a0 Think what we could do with that&#8230; or even half of that&#8230; or even a quarter of that!!!<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"details\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"details\">If\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcknight.org\/grant-programs\/grantees?query=%22Center+for+Rural+Affairs%22&amp;year=&amp;program_area=Midwest+Climate+%26+Energy\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.mcknight.org\/grant-programs\/grantees?query=%22Center+for+Rural+Affairs%22&amp;year=&amp;program_area=Midwest+Climate+%26+Energy\">Center for Rural Affairs<\/a> can get that kind of money to promote transmission, that says a lot about what these projects are worth to the developers!\u00c2\u00a0 This is not rocket science.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s all about the electricity market.\u00c2\u00a0 There&#8217;s a LOT of money at stake, a lot of profit to be made, and it&#8217;s profit made on the backs of all of us in transmission &#8220;flyover&#8221;
