Transmisison line routes considered.<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A while back, the City of Dubuque stood up for its residents and viewshed and all its economic development along the riverfront and said NO to MVP 5 through their riverfront!<\/p>\n<p>From <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nocapx2020.info\">No CapX 2020<\/a><\/strong>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p id=\"post-6096\" class=\"storytitle\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/?p=6096\" rel=\"bookmark\">Dubuque says NO to MVP 5 Cardinal-Hickory?<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>ATC has been gearing up in Wisconsin:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swnews4u.com\/archives\/24498\/\"><strong>Transmission line proposed<\/strong> <\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8230; and from the Dubuque Telegraph Herald, City staff weighed in against MVP 5:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Dubuque-No-to-Powerline.pdf\">Dubuque: No to Powerline<\/a><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And then, yes, indeed, in June they <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">DID<\/span><\/strong> vote <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">NO<\/span><\/strong>, unanimously, 7-0.\u00c2\u00a0 Here&#8217;s the full story, short and very clear:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3 id=\"blox-asset-title\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thonline.com\/news\/dubuque\/article_b58f264e-13d3-11e5-a626-b7b907c8ac11.html\"><span class=\"blox-headline entry-title\">Council members back city staff in opposition to transmission line<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"blox-story-frame\" class=\" hnews hentry item \">\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"story-times dtstamp\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thonline.com\/news\/dubuque\/article_b58f264e-13d3-11e5-a626-b7b907c8ac11.html\">Posted: <span class=\"posted\" title=\"2015-06-15T21:59:00-05:00\">Monday, June 15, 2015 9:59 pm<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"blox-story-text\" class=\"entry-content\">\n<div id=\"paging_container\" class=\"container\">\n<div class=\"content\">\n<blockquote><p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thonline.com\/news\/dubuque\/article_b58f264e-13d3-11e5-a626-b7b907c8ac11.html\">Dubuque City Council members members voted, 7-0, to oppose plans for a new high-voltage transmission line.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thonline.com\/news\/dubuque\/article_b58f264e-13d3-11e5-a626-b7b907c8ac11.html\">The vote was in support of a recommendation from city staff, who say the transmission line would negatively affect residents and violate city code.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thonline.com\/news\/dubuque\/article_b58f264e-13d3-11e5-a626-b7b907c8ac11.html\">ITC Midwest has proposed building a 125-mile transmission line from the Madison, Wis.-area to Dubuque County. The Cardinal-Hickory Creek Project would connect American Transmission Company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Cardinal Substation in Middleton (Wis.) Township to ITC Midwest\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Hickory Creek Substation, east of New Vienna in Dubuque County.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thonline.com\/news\/dubuque\/article_b58f264e-13d3-11e5-a626-b7b907c8ac11.html\">Council members adopted a resolution that effectively tells ITC Midwest that pursuing a line through Dubuque \u00e2\u20ac\u0153would not be in the public interest.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/a><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In today&#8217;s Telegraph Herald, it&#8217;s up for discussion again:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thonline.com\/news\/tri-state\/article_64663c3f-ed39-5065-a133-000b95c028ca.html\">Dubuque, Cassville or Guttenberg? Transmisison line routes considered.<\/a><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Here&#8217;s something of note &#8212; if they&#8217;re shutting down these coal plants, that frees up a lot of room on the grid &#8212; so why add more transmission?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thonline.com\/news\/tri-state\/article_64663c3f-ed39-5065-a133-000b95c028ca.html\"><em>Stead said the bigger concern is the lost revenue Grant County will see in 2016 with the closure of DTE Energy&#8217;s Stoneman Station biomass plant and Cassville&#8217;s Nelson Dewey Generating Station, a coal-burning plant operated by Alliant Energy. Both are slated to close by the end of the year.<\/em> <\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There&#8217;s a bizarre proposal afoot, to utilize existing structures build for a much smaller line:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thonline.com\/news\/tri-state\/article_64663c3f-ed39-5065-a133-000b95c028ca.html\">One of the crossings would utilize a low-voltage transmission line that already spans the river, which ITC would tack onto by stringing a double-circuit using existing poles and towers.<\/a><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>WHAT?!?!\u00c2\u00a0 In every other proceeding where people have asked why they don&#8217;t do such a thing, because sometimes it seems to make sense, we&#8217;ve been told it can&#8217;t be done, the older and smaller structures can&#8217;t handle the load.\u00c2\u00a0 And now it would work?\u00c2\u00a0 $50 says no&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>And a choice snippet:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thonline.com\/news\/tri-state\/article_64663c3f-ed39-5065-a133-000b95c028ca.html\"><em>The sites were chosen because of existing infrastructure on the river &#8212; transmission lines, bridges and locks and dams &#8212; which would enable the developer to reduce environmental impacts from the line, said ITC spokesman Tom Petersen.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thonline.com\/news\/tri-state\/article_64663c3f-ed39-5065-a133-000b95c028ca.html\"><em>He noted the company is in the early stages of exploring its options for crossing the river, and is working with elected officials, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Center for Rural Affairs in Dyersville, Iowa, to determine which option will have the fewest impacts.<\/em><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>What?\u00c2\u00a0 Our &#8220;good friends&#8221; at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cfra.org\"><strong>Center for Rural Affairs<\/strong><\/a> are weighing in, as if they&#8217;re important, and it&#8217;s not disclosed that they&#8217;re transmission toadies:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/toad.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6101\" src=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/toad.jpg\" alt=\"toad\" width=\"143\" height=\"132\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And it should be disclosed, all the money that they&#8217;ve been paid via RE-AMP and otherwise should be disclosed!<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3 id=\"post-5474\" class=\"storytitle\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/?p=5474\" rel=\"bookmark\">Center for Rural Affairs toadies for transmission<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A while back, Alan and I went on an infrastructure tour, and here&#8217;s a photo of the Cassville plant on the eastern short of the Mississippi, one of the ones slated to close:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/CassvilleSub.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6104\" src=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/CassvilleSub-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"CassvilleSub\" width=\"430\" height=\"242\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/CassvilleSub.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/CassvilleSub-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 430px) 100vw, 430px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And below are the economic development investments that the City of Dubuque is trying to protect.\u00c2\u00a0 From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.traveldubuque.com\">traveldubuque.com<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Grand-River-Center_Dubuque-IA-4-e1411672143714.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6127\" src=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Grand-River-Center_Dubuque-IA-4-e1411672143714.jpg\" alt=\"Grand-River-Center_Dubuque-IA-4-e1411672143714\" width=\"430\" height=\"430\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Grand-River-Center_Dubuque-IA-4-e1411672143714.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Grand-River-Center_Dubuque-IA-4-e1411672143714-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Grand-River-Center_Dubuque-IA-4-e1411672143714-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 430px) 100vw, 430px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/riverfront200.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6128\" src=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/riverfront200.jpg\" alt=\"riverfront200\" width=\"200\" height=\"195\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s one of those times I wish my engineer, Art Hughes, E.E. Ph.D., was still around &#8212; he died not far from Dubuque, in Peosta, and just one week after he was photographed making comments before the Iowa Utilities Board on an ITC transmission line proposed in the area &#8212; a transmission line that provides the link between MISO MVP 4 and MVP 5 in Iowa:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thonline.com\/article.cfm?id=232640\">Hearing generates electricity<\/a><\/h3>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thonline.com\/article.cfm?id=232640\">Dubuque County landowners express concern about ITC transmission line<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-3203 aligncenter\" title=\"arthughes\" src=\"https:\/\/legalectric.org\/f\/2009\/03\/arthughes.jpg\" alt=\"arthughes\" width=\"305\" height=\"177\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Look at this map.\u00c2\u00a0 The line that Art&#8217;s objecting to here is the solid line connector\u00c2\u00a0 of 345 kV, the piece between the heavier dashed lines of MISO MVP 4 at Hazelton in Buchanan County and the Salem substation in Dubuque County where MIS MVP 5 picks up.\u00c2\u00a0 And I know what he&#8217;d think about this MISO MVP Portfolio of 17 projects and this MVP 5&#8230; oh well&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/MVP345.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6097\" src=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/MVP345.jpg\" alt=\"MVP345\" width=\"431\" height=\"154\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/MVP345.jpg 506w, https:\/\/nocapx2020.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/MVP345-300x107.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 431px) 100vw, 431px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yup, the southern part of MVP 5 through Iowa and Wisconsin is in the news today: Dubuque, Cassville or Guttenberg?
